Cancer: Danger of cancer from X-Ray and CT-Scan

X-Rays and CT-Scans are very helpful in diagnosing the danger from severe head injuries, fractures or any other internal problems in the body, but on the other hand it also opens the door for cancer in human beings because of the dangerous radiations emitting from these procedures. The suggestion from specialists is that one should always consult his doctor before going for any of these procedures.

Many medical journals and publications have written that the radiations emitted from X-Ray and CT-Scan is very dangerous for human beings. It can increase thepossibility of cancer in human beings.

When the research done on a group of people who undergo for CT-Scan, during CT-Scan it has been found out that their body has been exposed to approximately2-4 Millisievert (Sv, measure of radiation dose) radiation. During X-Ray, the patient’s body has been exposed to 0.03 - 0.1 Sv radiation. For acute full body equivalent dose, 1 Sv causes nausea, 2-5 Sv causes hair loss, haemorrhage and will cause death in many cases. More than 3 Sv will lead to death in 50% of cases within 30 days, and over 6 Sv survivals is unlikely.

This doesn’t mean one should not go for X-Ray and CT-Scan but before going for any such procedure always take advice from a specialist or if it’s extremely necessary. Always avoid X-Ray and CT-Scan without any necessary reason.
